About Maureen

I am the mother of four adult children and the grandma to two little ones. I moved to the Eastern Shore 7 years ago from New York City. I have grown to love these small towns. I appreciate the history that the Eastern Shore has to offer. Two of my children graduated from North Caroline high school. It was a great move for my entire family.

I currently work as a teacher's assistant for the Caroline County Public Schools. I am in school working on getting my teaching certification. I ultimately would like to teach upper elementary students. I have always loved Math and English Language Arts. When I was in the sixth grade I tutored a student in the third grade in Mathematics.

It was then that I developed the love of teaching. Unfortunately, I didn't pursue teaching in my younger years. Due to my love for Math I pursued Accounting. After my husband passed I began working as a Teacher Assistant in New York teaching students in high school whom needed a little help in Algebra to pass the NYS Regents Exam (compatible to the HSA). I enjoyed working with the students and knew that teaching was my destiny.

I also enjoy reading and writing. When I was in high school I received the award for best writer. I have a passion for reading and can pick up on grammatical errors and proofreading errors that are made in a book. The errors do not take away from the enjoyment I find in reading it's just a gift I have for identifying mistakes.

I taught Algebra l and II to students who needed to pass the Regents exam and I have worked with my own children when they had Algebra during their high school years. I love Math and always try to brush up on the new ways Math is being taught.

I enjoy reading and while I read I can pick up on mistakes that have been made in published books. I am very good with grammar and can easily identify grammatical and spelling errors.

I presently work with kindergarten students. This is the grade where phonics begins. Students learn the names of letters, the sounds that letters make, and how to put the letters together to form words. They learn how to tap and blend the sounds to make the words. I work with them first hand and understand that patience is necessary to enable these young learners to develop their reading and writing abilities.

Spelling has always come easy to me as I won the State Spelling Bee when I was in Middle School. My love of reading developed my ability to spell accurately.

I believe that my qualifications make me the most qualified tutor for your student. I love working with students and believe that I can get them up to the level in their studies that they need to reach.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
