The university of Buea, (Education CST)
Gallaudet University (EdD)
I am called Ajong. I am orally deaf and communicate by speech Through lip reading and fluent in the American Sign Language and total communication. I lost my hearing due to meningitis since adolescence. Since then I studied on my own preparing for and taking official exams from home. I currently hold a 4 years bachelor of Education in the sciences of education. I graduated from the university on the honors roll and 16th position in the department. I enjoy exploring qualitative research on contemporary deaf education issues and applying evidence based practices in Deaf education like the HOTS and COVES concepts developed by Dr. Easterbrooks and partners of Georgia state University.
Helping others learn has always been my passion. I am a teacher of Deaf & Hard of Hearing children since 2009. I Strongly believe that Most students fail to learn because teachers fail to teach them the way they can best learn. With me the whole learning process is an exciting knowledge building adventure where I find myself carefully guiding the student to learn.
I love pure mathematics and can easily understand mathematical concepts. I passed Maths at the GCE. I can easily simplify Mathematical concepts from abstract to concrete concepts by demonstrating with real life examples and teaching aids.
I am gifted in languages and reading is my best habit. It is not usual for a deaf or hearing impaired person to master more than one spoken language. But I have a mastery of the English language, the French language and the Cameroon pidgin.
I studied the various language teaching methods in the university. The teaching of the English language was one of my major courses with reading as a cardinal factor because Every child needs to be able to read In order to learn.
Likewise my 120page dissertation at university was on the Theme Challenges teachers face in teaching Reading to Deaf children. I earned an "A" grade because I was able to provide empirical evidence through extensive research and correspondence with experts in the field.
I have taught at elementary education level uninterrupted for over 6 years and did a 4 year bachelors degree in primary and nursery education (mainstream education) graduating with GPA 3.12. Honors. Am very passionate about teaching children.
I took courses in science subject matter at university and equally at secondary and high school. I love sciences. I can teach it quite alright.
As a hard of hearing or oral deaf myself I can understand the learning challenges Such children face quite well. And as a teacher for over 6 years am quite rightly a qualified and effective teacher of deaf and hard of hearing children. At the university of Buea from where I earned my bachelors degree and took up post graduate studies I served as resource person on Deaf education issues and chaired several training workshops for prospective and in service teachers for Deaf & Hard of Hearing students under the Cameroon Deaf Empowerment organization.
