Learning doesn't have to be drab and routine. Look at something another way, and it will mean something different, something more, something you'll remember. Or use your other senses to hear a lesson, smell a fact, experiment with what works for you. Start as far back as it takes to find your entry point, and your journey will be so much easier from then on. Turn "I can't" into a thing of the past.

We hired Dennis to help tutor my son for the military ASVAB test. Dennis has a fabulous way of teaching "real life" scenarios to my son, to help him prepare and understand the test. Dennis is always giving constructive feedback to help my son excel in needed areas of improvement, and makes my son feel comfortable and gives him important feedback so he feels confident. So very glad we found Dennis!
My son is learning so much and Dennis has been working with his constant changing schedule. I feel my son is starting to get it!
Our first session was great. He is a very smart man. I can see me passing the asvab with flying colors in no time!
We have been using Dennis for well over 2 years. He is a very caring and attentive tutor who challenges my son to strive to do more than asked of him. He is great at staying on task but also throwing in some factoid to keep interest and avoid boredom. Can't say enough good things about Mr. Denny! We are blessed to consider him not only a great tutor and mentor but a caring friend who my son can depend on to be on time, thoughtful and thought provoking.
Mr. Dennis is a patient and knowledgeable tutor. My son has struggled all year in Algebra. During his session with Mr. Dennis, he told him, "Oh! I think I can do this!" We are so pleased!
Mr. Dennis tutored my daughter in math. I really like the idea that he delivers the concepts in a way that my daughter can understand. My daughter is able to take on the challenges that besets her now.
Our first lesson with Dennis was wonderful and the student was able to see things a bit more clearly and I know with more lessons, he will get this and do well.
Mr. Denny helped me study specific things for the AFOQT. I brought him lots of problems I couldn't solve and we worked on them together. I didn't know what I wanted in the beginning which was frustrating for me, but Mr. Denny was very patient and kind helping this math averse person gain more confidence. I really appreciate it.
Mr. Denny has been extremely helpful not only to our son, but to my husband and I as well. His written reviews, that are shared after each session, offer new insight and at times give us a perspective of our son's learning abilities and challenges. This is extremely helpful as we use this information to rethink our approach when helping with homework and it is proving to be a success. Mr. Denny cares not only about the subject at hand, but about all aspects of learning that effect a child, and for that we are very grateful.
My son thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Dennis. He was cool, funny, relatable and most importantly SMART! He made the subject very understandable and simple. Looking forward to working with him.
Great start to the program. Denny has a great attitude and conveys the concepts in a manner that makes them easier for my son to understand. Only reason I didn't rate five stars was the fact that it was too early to judge my sons progress with Denny's tutoring. As I said before, great start and I plan on continuing with the program.
Dennis gives you a comprehensive first look at math, not just the basic how to. His tutoring style helps you to explore the concepts behind the problems. Dennis helped me to understand where to begin in relearning forgotten concepts and to relate math to real life situations. His aim is to instill positive thinking that encourages the idea that comprehending math with practice is possible.
Dennis was very patient, funny, and gave examples that were easy for my daughter to understand. While she usually seems frustrated when taking about geometry, she seemed more relaxed when talking about her session yesterday. I noticed that when she didn't seem to understand a certain subject, he gave her several real-life age-appropriate examples until she started to understand the concept. And he did this in a way that did not make her feel degraded. I think that she is starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and is starting to believe that she will be able to understand geometry. We are very appreciative of Dennis's help and patience!
I enjoyed meeting Dennis. My daughter, who is very shy, warmed up to him quickly. I was amazed on how just after her first session she came home and completed the first two pages of her summer math packet and seemed more confident.
My son seemed very encouraged by the first session with Dennis. He even came home and did his homework that Dennis had assigned. Good grades are on the way!
I loved my first session with Mr. Dennis. I have a real sense of "I can do this" . He was very creative and patient. I am looking forward to our next meeting.
Dennis arrived on time and ready to get right to work. He was very optimistic and motivational. He was able was positive the entire session. Was able to relate with my daughter and used an approach that made her algebra understandable.
I was very pleased with the tutoring sessions. His availability was flexible and had an understanding way of explaining ASVAB material, he allowed me to think logically and not get confused with the problem / questions by breaking equations down step by step. Great tutor!
Dennis, thanks for sharing your concerns in an objective way, for opening dialog, and for being responsive to my ideas and my son's ideas.
Dennis was a wonderful choice for my 11 year old son. After his first session with Dennis, my son appeared to be more confident and positive about his studies. Dennis has a gentle way about him, and his approach seems to work well with him. Funny, but my son is looking forward to Dennis coming back next week.... go figure, an 11 year old boy looking forward to homework?!
Nice changes!! Dennis, thank you for everything! Charlie is becoming more confident with his school work, and the progress he is making is obvious to everyone. It makes me happy to see how much he looks forward to your weekly meetings.
We love how friendly, professional and informative Dennis is. He is easy to work with and flexible and keeps communication open. We will definitely hire Dennis again.
Dennis has proved to be a wonderful tutor with my 13 year old who was struggling with Algebra 1. He was very patient with her, worked with her on note taking, how to complete the problem solving process, and how math and science relate. She has gained a tremendous amount of self confidence by working with him. I would highly recommend him if your child is having problems with math or science.
Dennis is great to work with. He explains the why and why nots of college algebra. I expect with my tutoring from Dennis, I will pass my test with flying colors.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I spent ten years in the US Nuclear Navy, four in submarine service and four as an instructor at a land-based prototype in classroom and practical instruction of Chemistry and Radiation Control. I followed that with a stint at commercial nuclear power as a Radiological Technician.
The ASVAB is a test to determine how well you can learn, not necessarily what you know. As such, there are ways to take the test that can help you demonstrate this capability. These days people are turning to the military later in life than the formerly typical straight out of school, and some skills or practices may need brushing up, because you've been out of the mainstream educational paths. It's not like just getting back on a bicycle, there's some effort required to get those patterns back in play, whether it's grammar or math. Still, the subjects that have been taken before will come back, and the ones that may have been missed can be established to a level that could get you a better initial placement offer. Practice outside of the tutoring hours is helpful, so we can maximize our time to go over the things that you need, and affirm the things you already know. Expect 'homework.' As with most things, what you get out of it will depend on what you put into it! Depending on where your starting point is, some parts will be easier than others, and we'll work on the harder ones together.
