Salisbury State University
Well, I have a unique background. I'm a recent graduate of Salisbury University with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. I had three majors- education, intercultural studies, and English. I told you...I'm unique.
I believe in a multicultural education. I also believe that any student can learn and sometimes you have to think outside the box to accomplish that goal. Everybody learns differently. I'm a mom too. I also don't give up and encourage students that I have worked with to never give up. I believe learning can be fun. I also know that it is no fun when you are struggling with it, so I break it down and make it fun and easier to understand. I like history, English and reading and some science. I also love to write.
Parents don't be fooled if I tutor and it looks like fun because that way a student will remember it better. In reading, I have have used chunking to break down words and word walls. I make students responsible for their own achievements. I had a student that I tutored at SU that started not liking to read and by the end he was reading to me. He also was so proud when he read his father's favorite Robert Frost poem to him. The student was in the third grade. My professors told me that he couldn't do it but I knew he could do it. I also know a lot of Native American history and have a Governor's citation for my work with Maryland's indigenous people. Well, I have a unique background. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have student taught kindergarten, first grade, second grade and third grade. I also tutored reading skills through A Plus Success for elementary school. I have also taught school-age children at daycare. I also have a BA from Salisbury University and AAT in Elementary Education.
