Georgetown University (Health Care Mgmt)
My mission is to make tutoring as enjoyable as possible, while still effectively relaying subject matter and ensuring comprehension. I genuinely want my students to succeed; this means I want them to get high scores and have a true grasp of the material. I understand that every student is different, which is why I advocate a highly personalized approach, coupled with patience, compassion, and a sense of humor.
I graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University upon earning my BS in Health Care Management and Policy. Prior to that, I was a National Merit Scholar and attended an academically rigorous high school where I excelled in numerous Honors and AP classes. While there, I was a member of the National Honor Society and completed service hours by tutoring an elementary school-aged girl in Math for two years. I am also a certified Health Coach, which means I take the "whole person" into account. Many factors contribute to academic success, and I make it a priority to ascertain which habits are adversely or beneficially impacting my students. I do possess a genuine love of learning and hope I can pass it on to others!
My specialties include English (reading, writing, grammar), the SAT, and essay writing and editing. In high school and in college I proofread many of my friends' essays. More recently, I assisted a friend in restructuring and rewording a grad school essay. The result: the number one Physical Therapy school in the nation accepted him! Having taken AP English Language in high school and an English Literature course at Georgetown, I understand what teachers want and what students need to do in order to succeed. Additionally, I scored a perfect 800 on the Reading section of the SAT and would love to pass my tips and tricks onto students hoping to improve their SAT scores.
I also offer assistance with studying and organizational skills. I credit a large portion of my success in school to my study habits and knack for organization. If you think your organization or study habits could use some fine-tuning, send me a message - I'd love to help!
Additionally, I offer tutoring in Psychology and Nutrition. I'm passionate about both subjects and have taken AP Psychology and numerous nutrition courses in addition to all the courses that went into my health coaching certification.

I am a graduate student in a health studies program. I needed help creating a presentation in PowerPoint and creating a video. She understood the material well and knew exactly what needed to be done. She is very smart, and helped me solve quite a few technical problems. Wonderful tutor.
Alexis is one of the best tutors I've ever had. The help I received while writing my personal statement for graduate school was amazing. Alexis really works with her tutees to get to know them and help them reach their writing goals. Whether it be in grammar help, content writing, or both!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My undergraduate major, Health Care Management & Policy, married business with health care concepts. I took classes such as Strategic Planning & Marketing, Accounting, Managerial Ethics, Organizational Theory: Behavior, Budgeting/Financial Management, and Management: Health Care Organizations. My transcript is available upon request.
I greatly enjoy working one-on-one with students. I relish the process of getting to know them as individuals and developing lesson plans specifically targeted to their needs. I have approximately 200 hours of tutoring experience through an outside organization and would love to translate that experience to a home school environment.
I've used Microsoft Outlook in several of my previous jobs, including as an Executive Assistant at Corporate Health Resources, Inc. and as a Health Education Intern at Kaiser Permanente. I am very confident in my Outlook abilities. My resume is available upon request.
I have been using Microsoft Windows my entire life. My father was a computer engineer and "PC nerd," and he taught me how to use the Microsoft Office Suite at a fairly young age. (Additionally, he was adamant we use Windows as opposed to any Apple operating software!) As such, I'm confident in my Windows capabilities.
I am a Certified Health Coach through the Dr. Sears Prime-Time Health Program. I am passionate about health and wellness and have a fairly advanced knowledge of nutrition.
