I'm a (nearly) life-long resident of Baltimore (I did live a few years in Minnesota, Go Gophers!). I have one child in college and another finishing high school. Since a child I've loved math, science, and foreign languages. I have a near-native fluency in Spanish, thanks to over 20 years of marriage to a South American and involvement in the Spanish-speaking community. I also studied German for six years and learned Dutch through frequent contact with friends in the Netherlands. I have five nieces and nephews of school age living in the area and I've been teaching Sunday School (grades 4/5) for four years.
Professionally, I work full-time as a software developer, a field I've been in since 1988. Currently, I do most of my work in ASP.NET with an Oracle back-end. From 2000 to 2004 I worked with Stevenson University (then Villa Julie College) as an Adjunct Faculty teaching software development and troubleshooting as part of an accelerated program for people in career transition. I also tutored students individually after they had completed the program, and I have designed and delivered in-house SQL training for previous employers.

We are working on rebuilding my Dutch vocabulary, sentence structure, and common phrases used in everyday life in Holland. Looking forward to my next session.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been reading, writing and speaking Dutch since I studied it independently in High School. I have regular correspondence with several people in the Netherlands. I used to travel routinely in the country and used the language in my travels as much as possible.
I taught ESL for the Baltimore County School system in the 1990s. Many of our students were from the former USSR.
I took six years of German including independent study and traveled in Germany and the Slovak Republic for several years. I still keep current by listening to broadcasts and reading German-language media.
