About Victor

Hey Friends,

My background is very varied but that's what makes it even more fun. Originally, I practiced as a physician in my home country and decided I wanted to contribute to the Science of Medicine through research, so I decided to pursue graduate training in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and then Molecular Microbiology and Immunology both at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

The first (Master's degree) provided me a powerful toolkit with which to ask the right research questions and design the appropriate research studies to answer those questions. Through the second (Master's degree) I acquired a deeper understanding of how to develop powerful interventions against infectious diseases. While getting all this training, I discovered I had a passion for working with data. I get really thrilled when I am able to make meaningful deductions oftentimes with the potential to save many lives, from massive data sets that would appear meaningless to most people. Scientific research is more fun to me than it is work. To be paid to do what I enjoy is a great blessing! I would love to be able to help other people learn the scientific method using a very unintimidating approach.

I have enjoyed tutoring since high school when classmates gathered around my desk while I explained Math problems to them. In Medical School, I helped organize and tutored at tutorials. During the last three years, I have tutored Epidemiology, Quantitative Methods, Biostatistics, Data Analysis, Evidence-based Practice, Public Health, Microbiology and Stata on a one-on-one basis. I am looking forward to even more opportunities to tutor as I begin a Ph.D program next year.

My approach to tutoring is to break down complex or difficult concepts to simpler ideas that can be understood from first principles. I believe when a concept is understood from first principles, it makes more sense and is harder to forget. I also try to establish associations by linking several ideas that are inter-related. This approach also helps understanding, memory and recall.

Come and let's have a great time learning together! Come and share some of the fun that's to be found in Science!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biostatistics

I earned a Master's degree in Biostatistics from a top University. In addition to my educational qualifications, I have worked for several years in an academic institution conducting complex data analysis for clinical studies and tutored graduate students in Biostatistics in a one-on-one setting.

STATA

I have a Master's degree in Biostatistics. For more than three years I have worked, performing complex data analysis on large datasets using Stata. In addition I have tutored graduate students in Stata. Thanks
