My name is Zakia and I am an anthropologist. I currently conduct research on ethnicity and globalization among Ethiopian immigrants in the Mid Atlantic. Though my area of expertise is anthropology, I am a broadly trained social scientist with experience teaching a variety of courses. I currently teach sociology and anthropology at a local community college. As a graduate student, I spent three years as a teaching assistant in the interdisciplinary social science department. In addition to teaching students in the classroom, I have tutored athletes at Michigan State University and tutored refugees in English.
I offer tutoring in sociology and anthropology. I am a flexible and down to earth tutor and will do my best to ensure that you leave the lesson with an understanding of the concept or area(s) you are struggling with mastering. I offer a free consultation session in order to understand your needs. While I have a 24 hour cancellation policy, I do offer make-up sessions. I am willing to work with students in a variety of public settings that suit both of our needs. I also offer online tutoring or tutoring by phone for students that do not live in my local area.
I look forward to helping you reach your academic goals!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a PhD student in anthropology and am an expert in my field which is Ethiopian Studies.
I have also taught an introductory cultural anthropology course at a local community college in my area.
I volunteered with a local charity as a conversation partner and taught a work place English class. In addition, I worked as a tutor and conversation partner with Korean students.
I volunteered with Baltimore County Public schools as a classroom helper and assisted with reading and a number of other tasks. I also worked as a private tutor ( English conversation partner and reading tutor) for Korean students living in the United States.
I have taught Introduction to Sociology at a local community college for a number of years. I feel that I can tutor this course because I have taught the subject for some time now.
