I'm Cynthia P.! I graduated from John Hopkins University (Rockville campus) with a Master's in Special Education. I am an elementary special education resource teacher in a public school. I have been teaching in Montgomery County, MD for the last 15 years. The best part of tutoring/teaching is watching students learn and understand material. It is very satisfying to watch students make progress academically. I am a patient and persistent teacher. I take my time to understand the students needs and move at their pace. I customize the learning to the students needs.

Students learn in a variety of ways and its important to find out the best way each person learns. I use manipulatives or pictures to help students understand math. Its important to know students learning style to help them understand material.

There are 2 parts to reading: decoding and comprehension. Students have to know how to read words before they can understand what they are reading. Helping students to understand basic reading skills such as understanding the difference between vowels and consonants is important. Struggling readers often lack a strategic approach when reading unfamiliar words. I teach students strategies to help them overcome the challenges they have with reading.

Helping students to understand how to form their letters is also important. It is also important that their writing is legible so others can read it. It takes time and practice for students to understand how to form letters accurately. Teaching students a strategy for forming letters is important. This helps to easily remember how to write the letter.

I enjoy teaching students but just as important is my willingness to take feedback and suggestions from students and parents on how I can improve my teaching style. I encourage you to contact me to learn more and schedule lessons!

Patient and kind

Cynthia was very patient and worked well with my son. She was able to ask him a lot of questions and keep him focused. He was happy to show off what he knows as well as show her a good number of his dinosaurs.
