Grove City College (Grove City, PA) (Mathematics)
Hi, my name is Rosemary, and I am a graduate of Grove City College with a B.S. in Mathematics and a teaching certificate in Secondary Education. I discovered I had a knack for tutoring math when my twin and I were taking geometry freshman year of high school.
I have had several tutoring opportunities, including calculus to college students as well as nearby high school students in algebra and geometry.
Since graduation I have taught in a private and public high school/middle school setting. The subjects I taught include Pre Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Foundations of College Algebra. These students have been on remedial, regular, and gifted tracks which has given me the opportunity to create diverse lessons for each students' needs.
I am very serious about not only my commitment to the student, but his or her commitment to me as the teacher. I do not allow students to have their cell phones turned on during sessions and I expect them to show up to all designated sessions. Common courtesy and respect are crucial for both of us to succeed, and if I have a problem with the student's attitude, I expect the parent(s) to work with me in correcting it.
On a less serious note, I try to keep in perspective where the student is starting from. I like to make the lessons as interactive and enjoyable as possible by introducing new ideas and techniques. I have great respect for the faculty at Grove City College and would not hesitate to work with the parent and professors to get the most out of the student's time.
I look forward to working with the student and helping him or her develop an appreciation for math. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Art has always been a passion for me. As a teacher by profession, my artistic background has enabled me to provide creative ways to help my students learn.
I have given private drawing lessons to younger students as well as peers and have led sketching/paint nights in my home. I believe in allowing my students to improve their skill through modeling and simple step by step instruction. This allows students to conquer more complex sketches.
I have participated in drawing technique lessons in Pittsburgh for professional development.
I would love the opportunity to share my skills with someone who is also interested in improving theirs.
