I am truly passionate about student learning and work to keep students engaged as they learn. My goal is not only to improve students' skills in their specific subject of need, but to give them skill-sets that they can use for many years. I love tutoring students in reading, skills development, elementary school math, and the special needs population.
I've taught as a Lead Special Educator and was previously employed by Kennedy Krieger Institute. Currently, I am a full time tutor providing a wide range of skill services. They include but are not limited to: reading skills development all grade levels, phonics, common core math grades 2-6, students with ADD and ADHD, and organizational management for kids.
Every student learns differently and deserves a chance to be successful. It would be my pleasure to take your child to the next level!

Cheryl G. is an excellent instructor. She used her experience as an educator and blended it with her keen ability to assess my daughter's educational needs. Each session was not just a review of what was learned in school for the day, she implemented a tailored learning session that helped my daughter integrate new learning and get on a path of the continued improvement.
My plan was to use a tutor for the first semester of my daughter's introductions to middle school. I wanted to do this to get her off to a great start. At the end of the second marking period, I can say "Mission accomplished!" My daughter not only improved in her classes, she made the Honor Roll!
Thank you very much for all your help Cheryl!
I look forward to my son attending class with Cheryl. She is very patient with my son and knows how to reign him in when he gets update. He looks forward to attending lessons every time.
Per my 9 year old son, "She (Ms. G.) puts the fun in math! I am going to have her until high school." This is just after 3 sessions!
I am very satisfied with my student's progress working with Cheryl. I hope to see him continue to grasp his Math facts and to do well in school.

My student recently got a B+ on his Fraction review, the highest score in his class. Thank you much Cheryl!!
Cheryl and my son were all smiles upon their first meeting, it was an instant connection. She possesses many attributes important to us, and is knowledgeable, prepared and professional. Cheryl has a positive demeanor and is extremely patient with a multitude of techniques to engage and encourage my son to keep trying and have fun with learning. I have seen my son's academics improve, along with his self-confidence.
She has been a true advocate for me, as well as my son. When I’ve been stressed about my inability to help my son with school assignments and/or his academic struggles she addressed my concerns. With grace and tactfulness; she helped figure out and implement a plan of action that immediately relieved my stress.
I can truly say we are grateful and completely satisfied with the services provided by WyzAnt and the tutoring received by Cheryl G.
My daughter just started working with Cheryl G a couple of weeks ago. Let's just say that working on reading, writing and math is NOT my daughter's favorite thing to do. But, she is excited to work with Cheryl G. That is huge!! I look forward to seeing how my daughter's work with this tutor will help her with her schoolwork.
Cheryl G. is a very patient and encouraging tutor who targets her tutoring strategy to the specific needs of her students. She is very patient, reliable, and works very hard with her students so that they show academic progress. She creates different learning activities such as, computer learning, matching card games, and math worksheets to achieve well-rounded tutoring sessions. I highly recommend Ms. Cheryl G. for parents who want a consistent, reliable, experienced, and effective tutor for their child's academic progress.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a Lead Special Educator for second grade students. I have co-taught 5th and 6th grade students in an inclusive/self-contained classroom environment. I am currently in a support position in a 4th/5th grade inclusive/self-contained environment. I have experience working with students who are ADD, ADHD, Bipolar and Autistic. I've taken relevant coursework to support students with varying needs.
My approach is sensitive, motivating, and structured. My goal is to have my students reach their full potential.
My experience includes, being a Kaplan tutor for elementary level students, grades k-6th. The areas covered were: reading, math, and writing. I have been a long-term substitute teacher at the elementary school level, leading instruction in: math, reading, writing, and reading comprehension. Currently, I am employed by Kennedy Krieger Institute and assist in teaching math, reading, social studies, and writing skills to elementary level students.
My experience includes elementary level math tutoring for Kaplan, private math tutoring for a 6th grade student in 2011. I've co-taught math the past three years to grades 2 and 4-6. I enjoy helping students find new approaches in acquiring math skills.
I studied English Literature in college and earned my degree in English/Journalism. I have been an avid reader all my life and enjoy helping students to discover what enjoyment they can derive from literature. I present contemporary ways that the students can enjoy novels and poetry, thus increasing understanding and comprehension.
On a daily basis I teach phonics (Wilson Program) on the elementary school level. Phonics allows students to develop oral fluency and become better word decoders and increases some reading skills. Phonics is the foundation of word and sound correlation. I enjoy teaching phonics to students and watching them develop their core skills.
Over the past three years I have worked with elementary and middle school students to help improve their reading skills. I carefully assess each student, as every student learns differently. It is important to understand what motivates them and develop a plan based on how they learn. As your child's tutor my goal is to implement a very specific plan to help your child reach her or his full potential.
I teach basic phonic skills to my students, which helps them with their spelling. I also teach them how to use resources such as spell check and online resources.
As an avid reader and English major, I have an extensive vocabulary. Increasing one's vocabulary, in my opinion, is a life long endeavor; there is always a new word to discover. I can help students gain the appropriate skills in word usage, pronunciation, and of course word meaning.
I have taken several core writing classes at the college level and have been a writing tutor for Kaplan Inc. I enjoy writing in my spare time. On a daily basis, I teach students writing skills on the elementary school level.
