Teaching has been the love my life for more than 25 years! I was born and grew up in New Jersey and have wanted to be a teacher since I was in Kindergarten. I taught in the same town I grew up in and enjoyed being a part of the community and recreation department as well as the elementary school. In school besides being a classroom teacher, I directed the Drama Club, choreographed the routines, and designed the scenery and costumes for Grades K-8. I also organized the school and town pep rallies and coached cheering for over 10 years. I also have experience as a Resource Room teacher and devised IEP's for my students' styles of learning. Every day I tutored after school and in the evenings, for all ages and subjects including oral reading and comprehension, the writing process, math computation, critical thinking skills, problem solving, algebra, study skills and standardized testing practice. I enjoyed seeing my tutoring students lighten up when they mastered the topic at hand. This success gave them positive self-esteem and led to their success in school.
Recently I moved from New Jersey to Maryland to help care for my aging mother. Now I am substituting in the county schools almost every day and love being back in the classroom sharing my expertise with children of all ages and abilities. In addition, I continue to tutor my New Jersey students via Skype leading them to school achievement and life success. I even travel to New Jersey 2 to 3 times a month to tutor my students in person and to keep in touch with them. It is wonderful to see how they have grown and how much knowledge they have attained.
To proceed with my love of tutoring and teaching, I would like to tutor on Wyzant in order to radiate my future students with the love of knowledge and learning. I hope that I can become a part of your children's education as their tutor. I trust you will be more than satisfied with the results and am looking forward to meeting you.

I have been an Elementary School teacher for 27 years in New Jersey. I also was a Resource Room teacher for grades 1-8 teaching all subjects and devising IEPs for each student 's learning style and needs. Every day, I tutored students from ages 5 through 14 in a subjects including Pre-algebra, study skills, phonics, reading, problem solving, critical thinking skills, writing, spelling and standardized testing practice. I have active Teachers Certificates in New Jersey and Maryland for Grades Pre-k through 6. Currently, I am substituting in Maryland from Grades Pre-k through grade 8 and also at a Special Education School. I am qualified to teach all subjects from Grades K through 8 because of my education and tutoring experiences.
As a Kindergarten and First Grade teacher, Handwriting was a part of my curriculum and daily lessons. I taught handwriting individually working with each child. We also used Handwriting books, sky writing and multi-sensory methods. As a Second Grade teacher I also taught script which the children loved learning. As a tutor I am often requested to teach handwriting, both print and manuscript. This year I taught an 8th Grader script and presently am tutoring a 6 year old in Handwriting. I believe I am qualified to tutor Handwritng because of my background, experiences and education.
As a teacher and tutor for 27 years, my method of teaching was phonics-based. Students succeeded in oral reading, vocabulary and comprehension because of their Phonics background. Spelling and writing also improved using their Phonics skills. In addition I was the Reading Coordinator and evaluated tested and chose new Reading texts and materials including Phonics, Spelling and Language Arts series.
During my 27 years of teaching Elementary School and tutoring children from ages 4 to 16, I taught study skills to help my students succeed. My lessons included outlining, note taking skills, finding the main idea and listing supporting details as well. I also taught test taking skills and test practice in order for my students to feel confident and comfortable during standardized testing. Parents would request me specifically for tutoring study skills because of the successful outcomes.
