About Andrew

My name is Andrew and I currently work as a school psychologist in a large urban school district, but live in Frederick County. I work on a project supporting Kindergarten and PreKindergarten students to succeed academically, behaviorally and socially. Though I don't teach students directly, I develop and provide intervention to students with a variety of needs. I also work with families to support learning and development in the home.

I love helping children improve their ability to be successful in school. I think every child is unique and may not thrive in a school setting for a variety of reasons. Therefore, with tutoring, individual needs can be determined and supported for maximum outcomes!

I have undergraduate training in education and my current work allows me to use research-based interventions to support reading development.

I have been working in an elementary school my entire career, specifically working with struggling students, and that has allowed me to develop a bank of strategies to support learning.

As a school psychologist, I have to be able to diagnose students who have special needs. This also requires me to give strategies to support these students. I have worked very hard to recommend strategies that I have myself put into place in the school.

Please let me know if you are interested in discussing further! I have flexible afternoon, evening and weekend hours and am looking forward to meeting with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

Working in schools to help diagnose and support classroom teachers and families work with student's with ADHD makes me uniquely qualified to support these types of students. I have developed academic and behavioral supports for student's with ADHD that have been used and successful in a variety of settings.

Autism

I have worked for several years diagnosing and supporting student's who have Autism. I have worked with teachers and parents to support academic and behavioral gains. I have worked extensively since my time in college working with student's who have Austism.

Elementary (K-6th)

As an early childhood education major in college, I have experience in the curriculum that is used in the elementary grades. I currently work with elementary school grades (PreK and K in particular) supporting student's academic gains. I have a strong foundation in research based interventions and have the ability to determine the type of intervention based on the specific needs.

Phonics

In my current role in the schools, I work to develop, implement and evaluate interventions for student's deficits. For many students, this includes phonics development. I also work to provide families with supports they can use that align with work that is going on in the school
