A Tutor That Cares™ began in 2011 after many years of tutoring my fellow high school and college classmates. I have experience working with learners from 3 years old to 45+. I have been able to help people understand maths from elementary and middle school maths up to Calculuses and Probability and Statistics. I have helped many below grade level readers rise above grade level with a confidence and love for learning new words. I have helped at least three Spanish speaking scholars excel at the English language by mastering over 100 words in less than 2 months.
I have experience tutoring in different settings. I am comfortable tutoring at your place of residence, but the library is one place beneficial in many ways. It encourages the scholars to become fond of literature and its countless resources. I am a mother of two children, 1 and 6. I have been a teacher for the last five years. The grade levels I have taught range from 2, 3, and fifth intimately as well as taught library media skills to grades 1-8.
Math is what makes me tick. I remember any number I see, say and write three times. I have been able to teach my peers things their teachers couldn't convey to them. I have five years of CommonCore standards along with a year of professional developments in math data. I will be a part of a math summer institute to obtain more information on infusing mathematical practices.
I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade maths in a charter school setting. I have tutored all grade levels before becoming a teacher.
I have been trained on the Next Generation Science Standards NGSS through an 8 week professional development with OSSE. I know the best way to
Instruct the sciences are through phenomenon that occur daily. I have learned how to make their learning visible by being able to reason and construct arguments scientifically.
I am constantly learning what's new with CommonCore from the professional developments I attend monthly. I have attended the Fall and Spring Data Newtork Training in the DC area this year.
Overall I love making learning fun and exciting. I teach through many mediums and I like to make learning hands on. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
