About Chris

I am a recent graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a Master's degree in biotechnology. My interest in tutoring is centered around my passion for working with young people. Throughout my life, I have worked with youth in many capacities: coaching both basketball and tennis teams; one-on-one mentoring through the YMCA, volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House, peer tutoring in middle school and high school, babysitting, and being an uncle of twin 11 year old boys! I have a broad academic background and enjoy teaching (and learning) in just about any field. I pride myself in being a great communicator, and I believe that is what learning is all about. Sometimes it just takes the right form of communication for someone to learn effectively.

Academically, I have always had a specific interest in math and science. Although I majored in Biological Sciences at Northwestern, I also have a strong background in physics, math, statistics, and Italian (minor in Italian Studies). I made multiple appearances on the Dean's List at a top-15 ranked university in the country and scored in the top 10 percentile on the SAT, GRE, and MCAT. Most importantly, however, I am a personable, enthusiastic person who is passionate about positively affecting young people's lives!

- 95th percentile of MCAT exam
- 98th percentile SAT math section score
- 94th percentile GRE quantitative (math) section score
- score of 5 on AP Calculus B and C exams
- score of 5 on AP Statistics exam

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I work full-time as a research assistant so my availability is limited to the evenings on weeknights, and I am also sometimes available on weekends.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

98th percentile on Math section of SAT (2010)
94th percentile on Quantitative (math) section of GRE exam (2015)

Basketball

I was a 4 year basketball player (2 years JV, 2 years varsity) at Severna Park High School. I have also coached rec league teams and have been a summer basketball camp counselor. I am a point guard/shooting guard and know plenty of great ball handling and shooting drills. I also grew up playing for the legendary youth coach Ed Wilson, who stressed the importance of fundamentals.

Knowledgeable about Physics

Chris was very patient and knowledgeable about General Physics. More familiarity with High School work specifics would help with a weekly tutor.
