Hi there! My name is April and I have been teaching elementary school for 8 years. I am certified with an Advanced Professional Certificate. My kids (students) have entered my classroom working on all different ability levels, from students with special needs to gifted students. My goal has always been for students to grow in all areas. I love being a teacher. What makes me successful is that I get to know the individual needs and strengths of each of my students and I tailor a learning plan to meet their specific needs. This includes individual and small group instruction. I have taught grades k, 2, 3, 4, and 5, in both Baltimore City and currently in Baltimore County. I have tutored students in the past, but it has been informally, and on a volunteer basis, as I was their teacher, or they were the child of a friend. I am excited about this new opportunity and look forward to hearing from you soon
I not only have taught reading, but I also worked in an after school program targeted at students struggling in that area, I was so successful the following year I became the lead teacher for the program and responsible for the administration and supervision of the entire program.
I have taught using Common Core, but I have also written many lessons that are used to meet the Common Core state standards, as part of a Curriculum Writing Workshop
My most recent evaluation took place on June 10th of 2015. I was given the rating of Highly Effective. That is the highest rating a teacher can earn. I earned this not only because I was seen as a good teacher, but I also was able to demonstrate results based on standardized testing.
Please get in touch with me so you can learn more. I would love to help you reach your academic goals. Hi there! My name is April and I have been teaching elementary school for 8 years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been utilizing the Common Core State Standards for the past several years. I also have been involved with the administration of the PARCC exam which measures student progress toward these standards. I have helped write curriculum that aligns with the standards for both reading and Math. I have designed lessons to ensure students meet and exceed the standards.
