About Jan

During my 15 years teaching honors level science in a private school, I tutored many students outside of class. These were voluntary tutoring sessions which I did free of charge in order to help my students succeed. In 15 years of teaching Honors Biology, Honors Chemistry, and Honors Anatomy and Physiology, I was able to minimize the number of student failures to only 2.
I love teaching and since retiring, I love doing individual tutoring. I have gained much satisfaction from helping students understand science when they thought it was beyond them. Parents, if your son or daughter needs private, concentrated, patient assistance in learning Chemistry, Biology, or Anatomy and Physiology, I would like to assist you.

My experience is concentrated in tutoring high school students in Biology, Chemistry, and Human Anatomy and Physiology, however, I have also taught Anatomy and Physiology at the college level.

"Fantastic Tutor!"

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anatomy

I attained my Ph.D. in physiology at Temple Medical School in Philadelphia, PA. I was well trained in human anatomy not only by participating in a human cadaver dissection, but also by studying developmental as well as histological human anatomy in the classroom. After teaching human anatomy both at the college and high school level, I feel confident about tutoring in this subject.

Biology

I have a B.S. in Biology from Albright College in PA. I taught a course in Organism Biology at the college level for 3 years and taught high school Honors Biology for 15 years.
My favorite part of Biology is teaching the basics of plant and animal anatomy and physiology.

Chemistry

I have taught High School Honors and Basic Chemistry for the past 15 years and have thoroughly enjoyed doing so! Because my area of expertise lies in the biological sciences, I am able to understand and show my students how important an understanding of chemistry is even for a Bio major!

Physiology

My Ph.D. came from Temple Medical School in Philadelphia, PA where I studied human physiology with a medical perspective for 4 years. Fascinating subject! First one must know one's anatomy (the structure), then one uses structure to learn function (physiology). I have taught anatomy and physiology at the college level for 6 years and at the high school level for 15 years. I have spent many hours tutoring students one on one in theses subjects.

Zoology

I have a BS in Biology as well as a Ph.D. in physiology. I taught Organism Biology at the college level for several years as well as a comprehensive Honors level Biology course in a private high school for 15 years. I am well versed in the classification system of the animal kingdom as well as many of the anatomical and physiological adaptations animals use to survive. I have taught an analysis of several evolutionist theories as well as the creationist theories. I have taught many organism dissections in my career. I feel confident that I could assist a student at the high school level but might be able to work with a college student as well and would love the opportunity to try. I have no problem being honest with a student and declining a job if they need help with information for which I lack understanding.
