Villa Julie College (Stevenson University) (Early childhood)

Hi! My name is Rachel. I have tutored for over 5 years and have taught for Carroll County public schools for the past 10 years. I also am a mom of an 11 month old little boy. I love tutoring because my passion is working with students who struggle with mathematics. I love to see how they can grasp a concept with a more hands on approach. I love using lots of hands on manipulatives and technology to help them access grade level concepts. I also like to use music and games to help them love learning as well!
I currently hold an advanced professional certificate for the state of Maryland. I am certified in early childhood education (prek-3) as well as elementary mathematics (k-6). I have certifications in elementary mathematics leadership(math specialist) and educational administration. I currently work for Carroll County Public Schools as a Title One Resource Teacher which means I mentor teachers and work with the most struggling students in our school.
I graduated from McDaniel College with my masters in elementary mathematics education. My program advisor was Dr. Skip Fennell who was one of the key authors of the common core state standards. Therefore, I have worked under his direct supervision. I have taken classes in reaching struggling learners and methods for making mathematics concrete for students. I worked for Carroll County Public Schools on writing math curriculum as they transitioned to implementing common core standards. I also worked for the Maryland State Department of Education writing lesson seeds, and projects based on common core state standards.
I was nominated for Outstanding Teacher of the year in 2006, 2007, and 2009. I am certified in Elementary Mathematics, Early Childhood Education, and Administration.
I love to work with elementary students and make them love mathematics as much as I do! Please contact me to schedule your appointment! Hi! My name is Rachel. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
