I have a Master's degree from Goucher College. I love teaching reading, English, and Language Arts to elementary, middle, and high school students. I have been in education for 40 years, and enjoy assisting every student reach his/her full potential in reading, English, and Language Arts. Every student can read and think critically about the text whether it is fiction, nonfiction, or media.
I have written Language Arts curriculum for school systems for many years, and know the expectations of the grade level standards. Most recently, I worked for the Maryland State Department of Education planning and implementing Language Arts instruction for the statewide turnaround schools. I look forward to assisting your child to love and be successful in reading, English, and Language Arts.
I have coordinated and written districtwide curriculum in reading, English, literature, and Language Arts. Also, the new SAT will focus on evidence-based reading which I am familiar with.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have spent the last 5 years at the Maryland State Department of Education under the federal Race to the Top education grant. I was on the reading team of the MSDE Breakthrough Center that provided professional development and technical assistance to schools to transition and implement the Common Core Standards. We planned and implemented lessons in every grade level using the grade-specific Common Core Standards.
I was am elementary teacher for 16 years in a public school system, and also Coordinator, Language Arts for all of the elementary schools in my school district.

In addition to the current SAT for reading/language arts, I am also familiar with the redesigned SAT for reading/language arts that will include words in context, evidenced-based reading, and and composing an essay that analyzes a source you read.
