My pleasure in teaching the sciences comes from sharing the excitement I feel about understanding the world around us. As a former instructor of physics at the United States Naval Academy, I have experience teaching students of various ability and interest levels. I also have experience applying science to real life as a submarine officer. This combination of real world and teaching experience allows me to enthusiastically demonstrate the relevance of the subject to all students!
I specialize in tutoring math and physics. My teaching philosophy includes keeping students challenged, but not overwhelmed. I firmly believe students learn and retain knowledge better by studying in short, frequent sessions with no distractions. I highly encourage students to study each subject a little bit each day, even if the class does not meet daily. Regular homework, which includes review problems, is a cornerstone of effective learning.
I strive to help my students to progress with each session, and appreciate any constructive feedback towards this end. In order to be best prepared I do appreciate knowing any specific trouble topics, or a being given a copy of the course syllabus ahead of time.
I am flexible with regards to meeting times and places. I do require a 24 hour notice for cancellation and give my students the same courtesy.

Chris has been wonderful! He is always on time, he's easy to reach via email or phone if necessary and is very patient with my daughter. Chris is an excellent tutor!
He was nice, patient, and broke things down so that I could better understand the material. I was very comfortable with him. He was very knowledgeable.
Chris R. is exceptionally knowledgeable about Physics, and paces the lesson perfectly to match student needs. He has a very intuitive approach to presenting abstract concepts. I recommend him most highly.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
After earning a BS in Physics from the US Naval Academy, I put the sciences to use in the real world as a submarine officer. I was fortunate enough to earn an MS in Applied Physics from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. After receiving my MS I was an instructor in the Physics department at the US Naval Academy for 2 years. One of the great parts about teaching in a smaller school like the US Naval Academy is the experience working with students one-on-one. Although I had 10 lecture / lab hours a week, I easily spent more than half of my working time in one-on-one sessions with my students.
