University of Maryland University College (Computer Networking and Cybersecurity)
My name is Shaakirah and I am about 18 credits from finishing my Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Networking and Security with a minor in Communications. I graduated from high school 7 years ago with a 26 on my ACT, and decent SAT scores as well ( I don't remember the exact scores). Since then I have taken numerous writing courses in college.
I have about 4 years of volunteer tutoring experience through the Saturday Scholars program in Maryland tutoring middle school children in math, reading, reading comprehension and spelling/grammar. I also have one year of paid experience in the same subjects as well as in English and in improving SAT and ACT scores and all have reported increased Grade Point Averages and improved test scores. I love reading and writing, and I especially love teaching because it keeps me smart and helps someone to hopefully become smarter or improve their grades.
I was originally pursuing a Journalism degree, but I switched to Communications, which I eventually made my minor. I wrote for my high school paper, I took 2 years of Advanced Placement English and I am also considering pursuing an Education degree and teaching once I am no longer serving in the military. I love knowing that I can impact someone else's life in any way at all, but especially through teaching them.
I am looking to provide tutoring in reading, English, spelling, reading comprehension and to work towards improving ACT/SAT and other standardized test scores. I'm looking forward to hearing from you so we can sharpen some of those skills! =) My name is Shaakirah and I am about 18 credits from finishing my Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Networking and Security with a minor in Communications. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored on reading in writing for over five years and helped many students improve their scores.
I have a BS degree in Cybersecurity, but my minor is in communications and reading and grammar are my strongest areas. I have also helped family members and children of friends to improve their SAT scores and have volunteered to tutor for community service for the last five years.
