Virginia Commonwealth University (Political Science)
During my four years at Virginia Commonwealth University, I was active in several organizations such as Student Admission Ambassadors, Sisters Together Empowering Each Other Program, and Black Student Union. I also had the opportunity to branch out and start a new organization on campus known as Giving Individuals a Voice through Education and Empowerment. This is a community service and leadership organization dedicated to nurturing and expanding the minds of our youth. Being a part of these organizations allowed university staff, fellow students, and members of the community the opportunity to see that I am personable, approachable, confident, and trustworthy. These characteristics are not only necessary for success in life, but they would also make me an asset to any organization.
As noted in the previous paragraph, I started the organization GIVE during my undergraduate career at VCU. Education is something that I hold near and dear to my heart. Without education, from pre-school to a PhD, the world wouldn't exist as we know it. Therefore, I take pride in assisting others in their attempt to unlock the knowledge within!
While at VCU, I served on the executive board for various organizations. These positions required me to review numerous communications to student members as well as to lead a number of workshops, which included resume building and essay review.
As an honor student in high school and a Political Science major in college, History and the subtopics that lie within it have always been my first love. I, also, served as a peer tutor during my undergraduate career.
My wide spectrum of involvements has increased my abilities to stay organized and work effectively. I am a strong team player, but also possess the ability to independently complete tasks, as needed. Being able to help someone expand their mind and take the next few steps in their journey would not only be an exciting experience, but also an invaluable learning opportunity! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
