If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ballet

I have been involved in the arts since the age of two. I began studying dance at the age of eight and am a graduate of the National Dance Institute (NDI). I also have served as an instructor at Broadway Dance Center in NYC, Hudson Repertory Dance Theater, and various companies throughout the world. I am currently the artist director of Full Energy Dancers, a not-for-profit arts education organization that teaches dance and the arts to children in schools and community centers throughout the Washington DC metropolitan area.

From China to South Africa; from Broadway to the Kennedy Center and the White House, I have traveled the world teaching, performing, and sharing the love of the arts with children.

As the director of a company since 2009, I work closely with my employees to make sure they are welled trained and reaching their career goals.

A typical Career Development session is for 1 hour.

Drums

I have been involved in the arts since the age of two. I began formal drum lessons then and began playing the piano and organ at the age of seven.

I have a degree and music and have been teaching vocal & instrumental music to children in DC area schools for several years.

I teach with enthusiasm catering to the specific needs of my students. Every student can learn, but they do xnot learn the same way.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been teaching elementary students for over 7 years. I began my teaching career as a 1st grade teacher. I teach reading, language arts, math, social studies, science, and the arts with enthusiasm and relevance.

I relate to students and ensure learning is fun and the information is retained. I create critical and executive thinkers; not parrots. Students will be able to apply the skills learned in their everyday lives.

English

Though we speak the English language, many people speak English improperly. Together we will work on verb tense, usage of adverbs, homophones, sentence structure, synonyms, and antonyms.

I will teach you several tricks that will help you remember when to use certain words and parts of speech. You will see a major difference in your writing and your speech.

General Music

I have studied music since the age of two. I have a degree in Music with a concentration in performance. I have been teaching music for the public school and private school systems for 10 years. I currently serve as the Director of Music and Performing Arts at a school in DC.

Grammar

In a world where "LOL", and "I luv U" C U L8r" seem to rule, people of all ages are losing the skill of proper writing.

As a teacher who has taught students from Pre-K to 12 Grade and college students, I have seen some interesting writing. I am always amazed at my college students' papers and I wonder what they were doing in high school during English class.

High school essays, college essays, and job applications require proper speech that can be displayed on paper properly. We will work on proper usage of punctuation, grammar, formation of thoughts, paragraphs, and point of views. We will also explore persuasive, expository, and other genres and styles of writing.

For adults we will improve your writing to improve your productivity at work. We will cover presentations, data, grants, and more.

Writing at first may seem boring, but it can be lots of fun. Good writing skills can open the door to endless possibilities.

Music History

I am thus far the first and only graduate of the Richard Stockton College of NJ to receive a degree in African American Studies and Music (concentration in piano & vocal performance). I served as the teaching assistant for college's music department during my four years there, specially assigned to the vocal classes and the music history classes.

I have traveled the world teaching music history. I currently teach music history in schools in the DC area. I ensure my lessons are fun and relevant to the student.

Music Production

I have been recording music for over 15 years. I began using Cakewalk and quickly moved on to other software. I worked for four years at Guitar Center where I taught people how to use Pro Tools, Logic, Fruity Loops, various plug-ins, and analog gear. I have 10 years professional experience on both sides of music production.

I teach with a hands-on approach. With music production there is no better way to learn it.

Music Theory

Music Theory is the key. So many musicians today play by ear, but can not read music and have no clue what they playing. Become a better musician by studying with me.

We will explore music fundamentals i.e., notes, rests, accents, dynamics, rhythms, timbre, and more. Simultaneously, you will improve your sight reading.

Gain a better a appreciation for what makes your favorite song great!

Piano

I have been involved in the arts since the age of two. I began formal drum lessons then and began playing the piano and organ at the age of seven. Since then, I have been playing piano/organ in church and for various musical artists.

I am thus far the first and only graduate of the Richard Stockton College of NJ to receive a degree in African American studies and music (concentration in piano & vocal performance). I served as the teaching assistant for college's music department during my four years there.

I ensure my students have a solid music foundation and technique. Amongst the many exercises, I focus on the Hanon Exercises and sight reading. To keep boredom to minimum, I select a song for the student to learn and allow them to select a song they like to learn. Depending on the student's skill and preference, we will focus on a specific genre of music whether classical, gospel, jazz, etc.

Public Speaking

Public Speaking is a skill that everyone should learn. I understand it can be nerve-racking to stand in front of people and speak. We will work on it together.

I have over 15 years experience of pubic speaking and have been teaching public speaking skills for 8 years.

You will improve your confidence, diction, enunciation, eye contact, posture, and other techniques to capture the attention of your audience. We will explore the importance of knowing your audience prior to presenting your speech and what to do when you are unsure of your audience.

Your new skills will make a positive difference in professional and academic career.

Reading

Reading, Phonics, and Writing skills must be stressed and attained at an early age. I began my teaching career as an Early Childhood teacher in a school with disabled students were fully immersed in the regular classroom.

We will work on blending, recognition of letters and their sounds, homophones, synonyms, antonyms, proper usage of punctuation, capitalization, pronouns, proper nouns, word tense, other parts of speech.

Songwriting

Songwriting is not as difficult as many people think. Writing a song is basically writing a story. If you have a story to tell, let it come form the heart to paper. Together we will explore this idea and create some amazing music.

For some, writing lyrics is not the issue, but composing the music is. An understanding of theory and music formats is needed. I will teach you how to structure your music too.

I have been writing, arranging, and teaching music for over 20 years. No genre is off limits. Come ready to work and gain a better sense of who you are as an artist.

Study Skills

In college I coordinated and ran study sessions for my residents and any desiring students. I also volunteered at local a school tutoring middle and high school students.

Today, I continually seek professional development opportunities to enhance my skills so I can improve the academic lives of my students.

For over 10 years I have been passing on the knowledge and skills I learned about how to study onto my students to help make their academic careers a success and as stress-free as possible.

Theatre

I have been involved in the arts since the age of two. I began studying dance and theatre at the age of eight and am a graduate of the National Dance Institute (NDI). There I studied tap, ballet, hip hop, modern, African, theatre and vocal. I returned to NDI as an instructor and have served as an instructor at Broadway Dance Center in NYC and various companies throughout the world.

Since 2008, I have been the artist firector of Full Energy Dancers, a not-for-profit arts education organization that teaches dance and the arts to children in schools and community centers throughout the Washington DC metropolitan area. I direct all coordinate and direct all company performances.

I studied and worked in theater a as director, choreographer, stage designer, lighting designer, and prop master. I have worked on musicals and plays for schools, community troops, and Broadway.

Voice (Music)

I have been involved in the arts since the age of two. I began singing in the church choir when I was four years old. I am thankful to have had two amazing professional singers who directed the church choir. I received formal training every week.

For over 15 years, I have played piano/organ in churches, schools, show choirs, concert choirs, musicals, and for professional music artists. Vocal coaching and teaching vocal parts immediately came with the territory.

I am thus far the first and only graduate of the Richard Stockton College of NJ to receive a degree in African American studies and music (concentration in piano & vocal performance). I served as the teaching assistant for college's music department during my four years there.

I studied and teach opera and jazz vocal techniques. It does not matter the age; I have taught all age groups. People say, "I can't sing." I respond, "you will be surprised at what you can do in seven minutes; so just imagine what we can do together in 60 minutes."

Volleyball

In high school and college, I played volleyball and other sports. I have coached a summer camp volleyball team for two years.

Writing

In a world where "LOL", and "I luv U" C U L8r" seem to rule, people of all ages are losing the skill of proper writing.

In two lessons he was able to point out many things that my son did not know after a year of working with a piano teacher! This knowledge had an immediate impact and my son has improved just from these two sessions. Once we figure out our fall schedule, we will definitely try to work with Ne ...
