Saint Pauls College (Special Education)
Hello, my name is Amzatu and I have been teaching/tutoring for the past 8 years. I am a graduate of Saint Paul's College receiving my BA in General Studies/Special Education. I worked at a Special Education school for 7 years in MD dealing with students with learning, behavioral and/or emotional disabilities. I currently work in Washington, DC at a charter school teaching 5th grade. I tutor sometimes at the school I work at as well as tutor my twin nieces who are 6 years old. My goal is to help you get that "extra help" that is needed outside of the classroom environment. I like to find out what type of teaching style you gravitate too. I, personally am a visual and auditory learner meaning, I always like to see things or hear things like a tape recorder to help me learn better. We al have different learning styles but I believe it is helpful to know what style you are when trying to teach and implement curriculum. On my free time (which is hardly ever), I enjoy reading and cooking . I make learning fun because I incorporate activities and drills at time, to get you motivated. In the end, its always important to "Tutor with a cause"!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been tutoring and teaching students in K-6th for the past 6 years. I have taught Special Education as well as General Education. I currently teach 5th grade/ all subjects.
I have a certificate in the Wilson's Program. This program works with phonics, grammar and pronunciations. Wilson's is a Reading Program that is great for beginning readers or students who have difficulties with reading. With consistency, your child will become "on-level" or "advanced" for their age group.
