I am an Electronics Engineer that loves to teach and tutor. I have over 20 years of tutoring experience. I started tutoring elementary math while I was in high school. After graduating high school, I continued to tutor high school students in my community.
After I obtained my bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University, I became a G.E.D. teacher for the school board for 2 years. I also have a Master's of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
My concentration is in math but I am capable of tutoring all elementary subjects, in addition to math/science for high school students. I am an Electronics Engineer that loves to teach and tutor. Rashonda worked well with my son. She kept him focused on his work and is very patient and kind. We are looking forward to working with her on a regular basis.
Rashonda has been tutoring two of our children in high school mathematics for a year now, and we recommend her without reservation. She definitely knows the material inside and out, and is able to explain it so the kids understand it, but she also is very friendly, and the kids are always happy to see her and to work with her. We worked with two WyzAnt tutors over the past year (math and science) and are very happy we did. Our kids had good grades before, but incredible ones now. One earned a 99% in math on his latest report card, and both got As!
Rashonda has been excellent with my daughter. She guides her and challenges her. She seeks to find out the problem with probing questions.
Rashonda is an excellent tutor with the unique ability to get to know her student's learning style, in order to meet their individual needs. She is patient and a great listener. She engages her students in her teaching style making learning enjoyable. She made my son love learning all over again and found a way to make him excited about his biggest struggle - MATH. He really struggled with math and she was able to explain it in such a way that he could understand it. She is an excellent tutor and has a great teaching methodology. I will recommend her to others.
Rashonda and my daughter had an excellent first session. She really had my daughter involved in working out her calculus problems and explained the how and why of each step. She is very knowledgeable, patient, and kept my daughter engaged throughout the entire session. My daughter thinks she's great!
Rashonda and my son had a great session from day one. Rashonda was very patient and professional with my son; she went step by step with him to give a better understanding of the subjects he was struggling in. Rashonda gave her honest opinion about my son’s struggling subjects and her form of tutoring is now rebuilding his confidence. I would recommend Rashonda to anyone with a child that needs expert tutoring.
Thank you so much for the positive review, Lavangela! Your son is highly intelligent and determined and I am just excited to help out. It is always a pleasure working with families that are committed to excellence and that allow me to do what is necessary to ensure the success of the children. Thank you for the opportunity. I look forward to many more sessions!
Rashonda connected with my daughter so well. My daughter expressed to me after the session how she liked how she explained things to help her better understand what she needed to do. She is looking forward to the next session.
Shawn, thank you so very much! Your daughter is so much fun to work with. I love working with families that are as highly engaged as you are. Again, thank you for the opportunity!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Being that my major was Computer Engineering in undergraduate school and Electrical and Computer Engineering in graduate school, I have taken extensive computer science classes, including C, C++, Operating Systems, Computer Networks and Analog and Digital Communications.
As an undergraduate and graduate student, I took courses in math and electrical engineering that involved learning how to solve for ordinary, linear and non-linear differential equations. The courses were geared towards relating applications in electrical and computer engineering.
I have a master's degree from Johns Hopkins University in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Over the course of my high school and college years, I privately tutored elementary school children in various subjects. I started at the age of 14. After college, I became a G.E.D. educator with the New Orleans Public Schools and went through training. The training involved teaching elementary subjects to adults that were on the grade school level.
My main focus is math because I like to encourage future careers in math/science. Although, I love motivating children to strive for excellence in all subjects. I believe children must have a strong foundation because it only builds from there. Seeing children "light up" when they finally understand what I'm explaining makes me proud. I know then that I'm making a difference. What that child learns, they will surely pass on to someone else.
Learning should always be fun for a child so I work with each child individually to find what ways I can make it fun for them.
As an undergraduate and graduate student in Electrical and Computer Engineering, I took courses that elaborated on the application, theories and techniques in Linear Algebra for engineering students. The courses included topics in vector spaces, linear mappings, systems of linear equations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, just to name a few.
I have been using Microsoft Windows for many years, to include Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows Home Edition and Windows 7. I have mastered the essentials about navigating the PC, including switching between applications, using applications side by side, using the keyboard shortcuts, using the keyboard without the mouse, browsing the web, setting up email accounts and even personalizing the PC to fit your needs.
