My name is Louis F. I began tutoring my classmates when I was a freshman in high school given my high math proficiency. From there, I expanded my horizons in college and began formally volunteering with Shippensburg University's Supplemental Instructor program in which students are enabled to teach college level curriculum to students taking classes. For two and a half years, I was involved within this program in the realms of Calculus I and Calculus II. All the while, I would continue to tutor my fellow classmates and their friends, assisting them as needed. This would culminate to my working through Sylvan Learning Center of Lancaster while I completed my seminary studies both at Lancaster Bible College and finishing them at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary obtaining a Masters of Divinity and Masters of Arts in Pastoral Counseling. I was with them for four and half years working mostly with high school and early college students in the realms of mathematics, algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, study skills, and SAT/ACT Prep. I also on occasion worked with students striving to take their Praxis I exams especially in the realm of mathematics. I have currently moved to the Maryland area while I am searching for a church to use my Masters degree. I also teach and tutor mathematics at a community college.
In terms of my tutoring style, I emphasize the importance of ensuring both the material is being covered with individuals and the confidence of the student is crucial. I see every tutoring experience as an opportunity to strengthen the individual both on an intellectual level and an emotional level. Too often have I heard stories of individuals who disliked math due to the ways in which the teacher instructed them or seemed to have concern only for the material. It is my desire that people will be inspired not to simply understand the material but feel confident that they are capable to handle the material as well long after the session is over. Louis was one of three tutors who we had come into our home to tutor my son. We interviewed all three and selected Louis. Louis was spot on in evaluating my sons strengths and weaknesses and was very good with communicating with a 17 year old boy. My son really enjoyed having him as a tutor and I would highly recommend him.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Obtained my Masters of Divinity through Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. Strong understanding of the OT, NT, and the cohesive theology of the Bible.
Heavy emphasis on grammatical errors and flow.
