If you or your child need help with math, from general math to pre-calculus, I can be of assistance. I have a BS in Mathematics from the University of Illinois and have since used it in my professional and private lives, because I enjoy it.
I have tutored Math to adults for the last 35 years whenever I had the opportunity, and my enjoyment of the subject allows me to approach subject matter from different directions, to help the student understand. The most enjoyable thing about tutoring for me is seeing a student's eyes light up after they understand a concept, or reduce their anxiety when they realize they can do this stuff, after all. If I can get someone to actually enjoy math some, so much the better, but I will settle for making his or her road to success in their math studies less bumpy.
Following my Math studies, I pursued a MS degree in Atmospheric Sciences and following its completion worked in a science field for the next 17 years, all the time using my Math skills and further appreciating the different ways math skills can be taught as I continued tutoring.
I took many advanced math classes to get my degrees, and have used this material in my work continually. Advanced math requires use of Algebra, Trigonometry, and Geometry so I was constantly reviewing and using their concepts as I work, so I know them well. My tutoring during these years has allowed me to hone my teaching skills. My students throughout the years have been satisfied with the results, and I have had students who have repeatedly used my services.
My teaching style could best be described low-key but energetic. I am patient, but gently prod my students to achieve their goals. We will get things done.
I am available to tutor on a flexible schedule, as I find that learning is best achieved when the student is ready to focus. Please get in touch with me if you want an easy-going but focused math-learning experience. If you or your child need help with math, from general math to pre-calculus, I can be of assistance. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
