I experienced my first years of Mathematics up to the degree level in the island of Trinidad. My first degree was in Economics - which is applied mathematics and Spanish. Upon my entry into this country, the associate of someone from the Job Corps who had worked in my country interviewed me and offered me a job. T taught the GED program for three years - very successfully and was actually sad to leave- my decision was based on the offer of much better and necessary benefits. I then worked in the DC Public schools for approximately twenty years; and, recently I worked with the Children's Aid Society as an interventionist at a Kipp school and then with students who needed different types of therapy including educational therapy - both services in Baltimore.
Therefore, I am a certified veteran mathematics teacher with a specialty in breaking down concepts for student understanding that will reinforce their mastery of higher mathematics. I have the benefit and privilege of 'tried and true' pedagogy (meaning that my strategies work) that facilitates taking my students back to prerequisites if there is a gap and forward to advanced 'niceties' if I find unexplored talent. Because I am a seasoned teacher, my students can 'relax' and learn. There will be no learning if, in tutoring, they experience the same rigor of the classroom. I also think that there is no learning if new concepts are not added to the hierarchy.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching Mathematics at this level and higher successfully for the past twenty years, and have developed some sensitivity on this field.
During that period, I have acquired strategies and techniques in both content and pedagogy that make me an effective teacher.
