In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I hold an MSED (Masters of Science in Education) my concentration was on elementary education. I have a summary and thorough knowledge of letters, spelling patterns, and words. My strength lies in providing extension, instruction designed to develop the student’s sensitivity to spellings and their reactions to pronunciations which are important in the development of reading skills.
I have experience with the following:
Linguistic Phonics – focusing similarities found in words like cat, rat, mat, and bat where the emphasis is on word patterns rather than individual letter sounds.
Synthetic Phonics – sounding out-and blending so that students are taught to decode new words by retrieving from memory the sound that each letter, or combination of letters, in order to blend the sounds into recognizable words.
