About Devin

I'm a Speech-Language Pathologist with experience diagnosing and treating cognitive and communication disorders. This background knowledge allows me to assist those that may present with disorders such as Autism, ADD/ADHD, etc. My degree in Education aids me in assisting exceptional learners--those that may need a little more assistance than others and those that may need more of a challenge.
I have experience tutoring and supervising gradate students in the context of speech-language pathology. I've also worked with school-aged children/teenagers in the school setting. I love tutoring and teaching because I remember being a student myself and having trouble grasping a certain subject. Sometimes all it took was someone taking the time to approach the subject from a different perspective that made all the difference.

I'm fluent in English and French. I taught ESL/ESOL while in college. I teach others about attention to detail following stroke and brain injury, therefore MY attention to detail needs to be exceptional. I also proofread clinical documentation on a daily basis. As a child, I was an avid reading and consistently read above age and grade levels and as an adult, assist others in reading following acquired brain injuries.

If you have any questions or you're ready to schedule some lessons, just let me know! I look forward to helping you excel!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I taught ESL/ESOL while in college and have extensive education in IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) in English as well as French phonology.

I'm a speech language pathologist that assesses and treats cognitive communication and language disorders. I work with patients from all walks of life. I teach/treat daily and can adjust my lessons for each individual.

Phonics

I took courses in American Linguistics, IPA, Southern American Linguistics and French Phonetics while in college. I use IPA daily when transcribing my adult and pediatric patients' verbal output during diagnostic and treatment sessions. When my patients at the hospital present with aphasia--a language disorder--we often have to "teach" them the rules of English phonetics in order to assist them in regaining their language skills.

Proofreading

I'm a Speech-Language Pathologist that has worked in school, outpatient clinics and medical settings with both adults and pediatric patients. As a speech-language pathologist, I assess and treat cognitive communication and language disorders and have experience working with both adults and children with various impairments. These impairments include attention to detail, specificity in reading/writing and completing work-related tasks. I often work with patients on work-related tasks, bill paying and other tasks that would require extensive attention to detail. This can be easily transferred to proofreading papers for errors and content.

Reading

I'm a speech-language pathologist with experience diagnosing and treating reading comprehension disorders in both children and adults. I'm an avid reader myself and I love reading, discussing reading and encouraging others to read. I have experience tutoring children and adults in several subjects. My style is unstructured and conversational, and I "tell it how it is" without being blunt or rude.
