About SarahRose

This is my 7th year teaching. I started in Mechanical Engineering at Penn State. I love math, but due to "finding myself" in college I finished out in Psychology. I backpacked Europe for a couple months, and then enrolled in a very intensive one year master's program at University of Maryland, doing 45 credits in one year to obtain my master's of Education.

I am a very creative person with lots of resources to engage your child. I will find out what motivates them and is a challenge in the classroom so we can bring out their creative side and interests on a one on one setting. I have worked with children in all types of settings and all age ranges (infancy to adolescent). Nanny, babysitter, camp counselor, and elementary school teacher, now middle school math teacher.

If it's enriching materials and resources that you're looking for I can help do projects that align with common core that their classroom teacher can not provide.

If it's tutoring to get up to grade level I have many resources and ways to help your child succeed in school at grade level to beyond.
I can coach with you on what to do at home as well to reinforce skills that your child may be lacking.

This is my 4th year with common core in 4th grade. I have a lot of teacher friends that teach all different grade levels that deal with Common Core. I will seek out exactly what your child should know during each quarter. I'll even email the teacher for you to find out what they are working on in class.

I am qualified to teacher 1st through 6th grades. I have taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. This upcoming school year I will be teaching middle school math in the Wheaton area.

I have taken many courses on phonemic awareness and have worked with our ESOL (English Language Learners) population at my school.

I passed the middle school Social Studies praxis exam so I am certified to teach that as well.

I live in Cheverly, Maryland but work in Wheaton. My schedule is flexible and I can meet anywhere after 4 pm. I can also tutor on the weekends.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

This is my 2nd year teaching 4th grade Common Core with Montgomery County Public Schools. My team and staff developers have picked apart the indicators to tailor it to our students.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have my masters of Education. I've taken the Praxis 1 and 2 content knowledge for elementary school. I am certified with the State of Maryland to teach grades 1st-6th. I have taught 3rd grade in DC Public Schools, and now 4th grade with Montgomery County Pubic Schools for the last 5 years. I use differentiation in all my lessons. I have students with IEP's and 504's.

Elementary Math

I teach common core math

Phonics

I have taken a Phonemic Awareness online college course called: Teaching Phonemic Awareness and Phonics with PBS Teacherline. It is a website course that is flexible, online professional development for PreK-12 educators. It was 45 credit hours and meant for pre-school-3rd grade teachers. I took that in 2013.

Reading

I've taken college phonemic awareness classes for the primary grade levels.

Social Studies

I took the Praxis 5089 Middle School social studies exam in May 2016 and passed with 175. The number to pass in the state of Maryland is 154.
