About Sandra

My love for learning has been life long. I can't get enough of the Arts and Sciences. And I love to share, discuss and teach others. I prefer non-traditional learning situations, such as one-to-one coaching, small group instruction, and experiential teaching. I believe that creativity and imagination is critical to successful learning. The more the student can identify with the subject, the more successful the student will be. I am very excited for the opportunity to share my skills and experience, and to meet new people.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts, and have 10 years professional experience in Washington regional theatre. I worked in all aspects of theatre development, production and management. I ran lights and sound, was an assistant director and stage manager. I also was a house manager and volunteer coordinator. I managed several box offices and a start-up theatre company. I even have one professional acting credit. I was the understudy to the understudy to the dead body in "Arsenic and Old Lace". Recently I completed certifications from the National Speakers Academy, Philadelphia Chapter and the Certified Coaches Federation.

I am also a creative and science / technical writer, and certified coach. I specialize in tutoring in the Arts; theatre, film, writing and fine arts. I can provide research and structure guidance for reports and papers for advanced learners. I can help younger students stand out with their assignments; including creative writing, spelling, vocabulary and reading. As needed, I will assign homework, but I will also work with student to complete assignments given to them by their teachers and professors. I am open to tutor a wide-range of topics and subjects.

It is important to me that the student succeeds, and to ensure that I will ask for feedback from the students, and as appropriate, parents and teachers. If the student, parent or teacher is not satisfied with my tutoring, I will work with them to correct the deficiency, or provide a refund. I have a 24-hour cancellation policy, but will happily reschedule or set-up make-up sessions. I will tutor in person at a neutral location, online, or by phone, email or Skype.

Learning is fun, and students working with me will have fun learning. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve academic success.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

As a coach, I work with clients to assess their skills and talents. From there, we work together to determine goals and game plans to reach those goals. As a tutor, I would use the same techniques of helping the students evaluate their future plans and assist them in setting goals and actions to begin working toward them. As a coach, I provide a source of accountability to the process.

Public Speaking

As a theatre professional, speaking in front of an audience is an essential skill. Although I was not an actress, I did speak in front of audiences and have coached young actors on their speech and delivery. As a coach, I work with clients to develop presentations and presentational skills.

Theatre

I hold a B.A. in Theatre Arts, and have 10 years of direct professional experience in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region. I worked in all facets of the industry: technical, administrative, and management. I even have one professional acting credit. I was the understudy to the understudy to the dead body in "Arsenic and Old Lace". I use theatre-craft in my coaching and tutoring to assist my clients in assessing goals and developing game plans.

Writing

I am a creative and science / technical writer. I specialize in tutoring in the Arts; theatre, film, writing and fine arts. I can provide research and structure guidance for reports and papers for advanced learners.
