About Lavern

I am a certified elementary and middle school teacher with a MA in education and ABD in k-12 education. My career in education began fourteen years ago in a New York City Public School. It has provided me with numerous hours of professional development in the field of education. My fourteen years of teaching experiences in three public schools have also equipped me with a plethora of effective reading and mathematics teaching strategies. In addition, I have more than thirteen years of tutoring experience in both public and private schools. Currently, I am teaching students from diverse communities in a suburban elementary school in Maryland. My current position enables me to provide these students with the foundation necessary for mastering basic skills at the elementary level. As a trained educator, I am capable of working collaboratively with parents, students and other educators in order to create an effective individual learning plan for all learners regardless of their learning styles or abilities. I believe my experiences and my drive as an educator, change agent, and futurist in the field of education supports my ability to help all children achieve their goals and perform on grade level. Let’s discuss how I can help your child achieve a growth mindset and surpass their own expectations.
