Catonsville Community college (Liberal Arts)
Hello to All,
My name is Mary K. F., and I have worked with Elementary School age children. Prior to this, I worked in the medical field for over thirty years, but made a career change because of my love for children. This transition began as I visited my granddaughter's classes and felt I wanted to jump right in and help with the little ones. I then accepted a position in Pre-K with some of the children with special needs. I also assisted with children in grades 4th and 5th with the same needs. Presently, I am working under the Guidance department, supporting the children with behavioral problems and also provide substitution for teachers in the classroom. I could see certain children struggling and gravitated towards them so they could complete their work and tasks. It was good to see the children taking home their assignments with confidence and smiles at the end of the day. I feel when the students have not achieved what the other students have this leaves a sense of disappointment, embarrassment and overly low self-esteem. We don't want their confidence to begin to wane, especially when they are just starting on the education ladder. They need to stay on track with extra help if needed to maintain on grade level and feel inclusive within the classroom.
I feel I can be helpful and hopefully an asset to these young lives especially in Reading, Writing, Handwriting and Vocabulary. No child should be left behind, but should keep pace and hopefully accelerate if possible to maintain the standards put forth in a curriculum, A child's welfare is of the utmost importance and that includes mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. The "Wholeness" of the child is vital and I feel if I can contribute to helping a young person's ability to attain these goals and keep them striving for greater potential. I consider it an Honor. Working with elementary age children in the areas of English, Reading, Writing, Phonics, and Vocabulary are the areas that I am most suited for. Thank You for Your Consideration! Hello to All,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts and five years experience working in an elementary school. I have been a teacher's assistant and also worked in the guidance department. I have excellent handwriting in both cursive and printing of the word. I have past experience working with children to become proficient in learning to write letters and words legibly. Basic handwriting skills are essential for a student to master because it affects how they write in all subject matters.
