During the past thirteen years I had the pleasure of working for the Baltimore County Public Schools as a classroom teacher in a Reading First elementary school. I have since retired from that position and am looking for a new opportunity where I can transfer my many skills obtained in the field. Teaching in the Baltimore County School System, I have had the opportunity to teach in schools that were multiracial, multilingual urban elementary schools during a complex and unpredictable time. Teaching at a Reading First school has provided me with various opportunities to develop strong communication and interpersonal skills, work as a team player, and demonstrate computer skills mainly teaching myself how to use the software and working on troubleshooting computers for other colleagues.
I specialize in tutoring for elementary education in math and reading for success on the PARKK exam. My goal is to work with my student and caregiver as a team identifying the need and in the specific area of greatest need. At each tutoring session the student and I will work together to understand each concept and continue to explore until mastery. I hope to keep the student challenged but not overwhelmed, I seek to develop a relationship where the child is looking forward to come to tutoring each session. I may assign homework for the student to complete depending on the need and will keep in contact with the student's caregivers to report on student progress.
I hold myself to a high standard. For that reason, I seek feedback and welcome questions.
I try to be very flexible with time. While I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy, I understand emergencies may arise and offer make-up classes if scheduling allows.
To ensure that students have a quiet and comfortable study space in which to work with me, I offer tutoring at libraries with a private study space. But am willing to make other arrangement to meet the needs of both the student and tutor.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
