University of Rochester (Biology)
I am a recent graduate from the University of Rochester, currently doing cancer research at Johns Hopkins University. During my undergraduate, I studied Cell and Developmental biology and minored in Social Psychology. My teaching experiences include being an Organic Chemistry Lab Teaching Assistant for two years in which I prepared, and instructed students in the course material. I really enjoyed seeing my students improve their understanding of class material by reinforcing their knowledge through hands on applications in a laboratory setting. Outside of the lab, I also made frequently made myself available for more one-on-one tutoring and office hours.
In addition to my Organic Chemistry, I have also tutored students in Rochester's public schools, and children in a refugee outreach center. These were all extremely rewarding experiences for me and I hope to continue helping students in this way because I personally know how it feels to be a student and master a challenging subject!
I received a Bachelor's of Science in Biology with an Honor's Distinction in Research, and have had experience teaching in science at a college level. I am also a pre-medical candidate and scored in the 92nd percentile on the MCAT. With these qualifications, I have recent exposure to relevant testing material and will be able to share successful test-taking techniques with my students.
I have had personal experience with ESL as a student and recognize the importance of the program. Since then, I have also tutored refugee children in English to help aid their transition into the United States. I know firsthand how powerful of a tool mastering the English language is in helping to facilitate the integration into a new environment. Furthermore, I am fluent in Mandarine Chinese and will be able help bridge that language barrier and help my students better understand their material.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received a 5 on the AP Biology exam, and received an AP Scholar Award in high school. I received a BS in Cell and Developmental Biology from the University of Rochester. In college, I have experiences being a Teacher's Assistant and have held one on one office hours to help my students with challenging material.
