About Andrew

I have tutored students of varying ages (6-40+) in several subjects, including Science, English, Spanish, Martial Arts, and Outdoor Survival. The joy of tutoring comes from the look on a student's face when they understand a concept, especially one which was challenging them before.

When I lived in Spain I tutored two students ages 12 and 17. With the 12 year-old we reviewed homework and prepared for the next lesson. With the 17 year-old we reviewed homework and prepared for the Spanish equivalent of the SAT's.

I grew up speaking Spanish in the home with my mother and sister, and continued on to earn my BA in Spanish at NYU. Besides countless trips to Mexico to visit my family I also studied for 10 months in Madrid during my sophomore year in college. I now teach Spanish at a school outside of Hagerstown Maryland.

I received my second BA from NYU in Politics. My focus was in international politics, which I explored through a school year in Madrid, and, back in New York, with several renowned professors. My culminating politics class was Solving Foreign Crises, in which I studied the Catalan Separatist movement. I analyzed players and possibilities in order to provide a peaceful response for the Prime Minister, and presented my solutions to the class.

As a teacher I have a strict schedule, limiting my availability to primarily the weekend. However, if you are willing to put in the effort we can make the time to meet - sunrise conjugations, or a utilitarian analysis of the day's events are great ways to improve your education. Send me an email and we'll make it work.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Political Science

My primary course of study at NYU was politics with a focus on international relations. While in Spain, I studied the political history and relationship between Spain and the EU, and I took a journalism class, through which I enhanced my understanding of Spanish politics. Back in New York I completed my BA in Politics, with the culminating class being Solving Foreign Crises. For my project I presented a peaceful response to the Catalan Separatist movement. This required following several global and domestic news outlets, analyzing players and actions, and synthesizing data in order to provide a solution for the Prime Minister.

Public Speaking

At the age of thirteen I was a volunteer instructor for my martial arts school. I helped students ages 6-40+ improve their skills and self-confidence, usually the classes were 30 students. As an Eagle Scout I have served in several leadership roles requiring a strong public presence, including leading a troop of 80+ scouts and adults on camping trips, which ranged in length from three to six days, and now as a counselor at a summer camp. With the camp I led a staff of 120 youth and adults as the Program Director. In my final year at NYU I took a Public Speaking class, our final project was to present our fictitious company, Space Stream - a company focused on providing a luxury adventure on Mars. Currently, I teach Spanish to youth in grades 8-10 at a boarding school in Maryland.
