About Kristie

I have a B.S. in Education with a certification in environmental science K-12 with 10 years teaching experience in both elementary and secondary education. My certification areas were in elementary education K-8 (all subjects), Art K-12, Biology 7-12, and environmental science K-12. I also have experience tutoring college biology and adult learners in other areas.

It is my belief that learning should be interactive and hands on. When a learner begins to become an active learner able to problem solve and ask questions; they will thrive in their learning community. My passion is in helping students develop the skills necessary for success.

With two years teaching elementary reading, math, social studies, and science coupled with a degree in elementary education, I have the ability to assess reading levels and work to provide help where needed. In math, I am able to listen to student ideas and build their problem solving abilities.

If you're ready to love learning or just need a little help getting through a difficult class I'd love to talk with you and schedule lessons that will help you be your best!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As a public school teacher, I have spent ten years working with moderate to severely ADHD students.

I am also able to help implement highly effective study skills to help ADHD students succeed.

I was a Maryland state licensed cosmetologist for over 20 years. As part of my BS degree, I completed health and fitness and nutrition course. In my biology courses part of the concentration was on nutrition. The breakdown of calories into ATP and the Krebs cycle. As a teacher of human biology, nutrition is addressed. My knowledge is in understanding nutrition as a science as well as understanding foods (plants) and where energy is derived. I also apply genetics and GMO's in this subject.
It is not to advise students in how to eat but the science of it all.
