Hello, I have been tutoring since 2009. I can truly say that helping students reach their potential is one of my passions. I have experience with 2nd grade through college and work well with all age groups and life stages. I have experience with pre-algebra, algebra, algebra II, Reading, vocabulary, SAT reading, SAT math, and study skills.

In my experience, when a student is having difficulty in school and completing homework, I usually back up and teach the concepts that come just before. Once these are learned, the current homework is tackled much more effectively.

I have an associate's degree in Business Admin. from Frederick Community College and a Bachelor's degree in Pastoral Theology from Commonwealth Baptist College in Lexington, KY. I also volunteer at my church. My day job is a warehouse manager.

I have tutored Algebra 1, Algebra 2 Prealgebra, SAT math at Frederick Community College, Huntington Learning Center, and privately.

I have an excellent score on the reading and writing sections of the SAT and have had success with teaching elementary level reading on a private tutoring basis.

Microsoft Excel,

Microsoft Excel

My, how I love Excel! There's no better program around to organize, sort and calculate data and information. Need to create a table of contacts? Need to create a schedule? Need to keep track of your finances? It's all here in one program that I have been using for years and would be more than happy to help anyone learn.
Microsoft Publisher,

Microsoft Publisher

I have used Microsoft Publisher extensively in the last several years in various other jobs as well as personal use. I have created flyers, invitations, calendars and various similar documents. Most of these I printed, sent as email attachments, printed, etc. If a student has difficulty with it, I would be happy and qualified to guide them through most of the program.

Elementary Education

Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

While in college, I worked at Huntington Learning Center in Frederick. While there, I worked with mostly elementary age children, teaching basic math concepts. When working with young children, I patiently go over the most elementary facts as many times as needed. Many times, repetition is truly the key to memorization and absorption at that young age.
Vocabulary,

Vocabulary

Are you loquacious? Subservient? Do you think axiomat-ically? Maybe you're plagued with triskaidekaphobia. . . As fun as they are to show off how smart you are, vocabulary words are essential tools in the arsenal of any successful professional, and that usually begins during the years spent in school. I enjoy learning new words myself and I especially enjoy helping others get a grip on the finer points of the English language.

SAT Reading,

SAT Reading

Many of the difficulties on the reading sections of the SAT can be worked through simply with practice. My goal is to guide the student to work as efficiently as possible to achieve the best results. I don't consider myself a genius, but with a hard earned score of 710 in the reading section alone, I do feel qualified to tutor SAT reading.

SAT Math,

Whether it be a knotty problem about discovering how long it takes to eat an apple pie, or calculating the chance of pulling a green marble out of a cookie jar, SAT math is a little, well, random. With this in mind, I have had personal success with cracking SAT math, and have been able to help other students do the same. My methods excel at connecting the concepts learned in math class to the new skills required for doing well on the SAT.
