I have experience working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds and different ability levels: General Education, ESOL/ESL, Talented and Gifted, Special Education -- ADD/ADHD and Autism.

I love making learning fun and commit myself to continual improvement. I have taught Reading Language Arts, Social Studies (U.S. History/World Cultures) and much more. I have a wealth of knowledge and lots of effective strategies to share to support you in understanding various topics and becoming a better student. I currently mentor teachers and support students in all subject areas in grades K-12.

I am working with elementary reading students to provide a comprehensive understanding of phonics, sight words to improve reading comprehension and support elementary math students in understanding basic skills/concepts. We use manipulatives, songs and hands-on differentiated activities to make learning engaging and fun.

To improve scores on the reading portion of standardized tests such as the PSAT/SAT, I have worked with students to help them improve comprehension skills, practice reading strategies, and complete and score practice tests then discuss results.

I love teaching and believe all students can learn and achieve at different levels if given adequate time to do so. I will do my best to support you in becoming a successful student. With my upbeat, positive personality you will learn and grow.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon to begin our tutoring journey.

Kind Regards,
LaShelle

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

I have worked with K-12 students and adults in exploring career opportunities. We work together to complete career inventory surveys to identify areas of strength/interest. Then, we use an occupational resource to explore careers and look at working conditions, qualifications, pay, and future projections for job openings. In addition to this, we also look at job trends of the future to see which jobs are in demand. Whatever your background, I work to expose you to lots of opportunities. I am resourceful whether you are a recent high school or college graduate, have a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate degree, there are lots of opportunities. I also explore a wide variety of jobs for blue collar or white collar workers, those with two year degrees, four year degrees and advanced degrees. So, whether you're looking for your first job, changing careers, making a lateral move or retired and looking to rejoin the workforce part-time or full-time, I can help you.
