Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I am a certified special education teacher. I have worked with students with ADD and ADHD in the past with positive results. I know how to help them stay on task and focused during lessons.

Drawing

I took AP art in high school and did a 2-year certification in art in college. I enjoy drawing and painting in my free time. I would teach students in this area creatively and patiently.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified special education teacher within the area of elementary education. I have worked in elementary schools for the past 2 years, as an intern and now as a substitute teacher. I have worked successfully with improving students' math and reading skills.

Fitness

I am an avid proponent of physical fitness being a core part of everyone's life, in a way that is healthy and fun for the individual. I personally enjoy running, hiking, and yoga in my free time. I was a personal fitness coach for a woman with Autism for 2 years, where I helped improve her physical fitness over time.

Handwriting

I have worked with a student with Autism using applied behavior analysis to teach him handwriting skills for basic letter formation. I can expand this to teaching other types of student handwriting skills as well. I am also experienced in working with Kindergarten students and handwriting activities and worksheets through my substitute position in elementary schools.

Phonics

I have worked with the SPIRE phonics reading intervention with elementary students in the past. I have improved K-3 grade students' abilities to read and decode words. I am willing to learn other systems to fit the individual's needs in learning phonics skills.
