Prince George's Community College (Engineering)
I have been a Mathematics Tutor at the Math Learning Center of Prince George's Community College since 2014. I worked hard enough to earn my Associate's Degree from the school in 2015, after two and a half years of Engineering Coursework. I have always had a passion for math and it has always been my favorite subject but, more than anything I've always enjoyed helping individuals learn and succeed as they unlock their academic potential. As I tutor I try my best to engage students to help them learn, while at the same time not being a crutch.
When engaging new students I understand that there are many different styles of learning, so I try my best to play to the strengths of the student to help them master topics in which they are currently struggling, while simultaneously teaching them a new way to approach the subject so they can be better equipped to handle the information the subject will present to them.
What makes me an outstanding math tutor is the experience that I have compiled through interacting with a diverse group of students that consist of many different learning styles. Also the genuine love that I have for the subject combined with the care that I have for the students I tutor, approaching them as unique individuals and not just another job.

My 12 year old looks forward to his time with Carl! That expectancy transfers to the classroom where he demonstrates a desire to actively participate and ask for support! We plan to have Carl work with both boys over the summer to prep for 8th grade!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra is the foundation of math proficiency. With a superior understanding of Algebra many task can be completed in many other math classes as well as increasing the ability to think and analyze critically. The further you go into math courses the sharper your algebra skills become. Having completed through Calculus III, my abilities in algebra are securely fine tuned and capable of helping anyone in need of assistance.
As an engineering student, Calculus is the introductory math course taken to earn a degree. After actually taking the three Calculus courses, along with Differential Equations, the amount of revisited topics used for engineering applications is very broad. With experience through taking the class, tutoring it, and applying the applications I believe i'm qualified enough to be an adequate help in this subject.
Along with Calculus, the applications for Trigonometry also expand far beyond the taking of the course itself. As an engineering major, with the mission to be a proficient designer, understanding the world from a polar perspective is highly important. I've tutored many students in Trigonometry and have had all positive experience due to the easy translation to the real world applications that can be applied.
