I am an enthusiastic educator specializing in reading and writing intervention strategies. I began tutoring informally in high school by editing and revising analytical and creative papers for my peers. In college, I held a paid position as a Center for Learning Excellence Writing Center Tutor. Upon graduation, I spent a year in Boston teaching children with severe autism by utilizing principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. I then spent over two years teaching PreK, PreK2, Kindergarten, and School Age classes. As a graduate student at the University of Maryland, I mentored undergraduate college students in a laboratory setting. I have led workshops on professional writing development and am currently employed in Early Education research.

I work with all age demographics, ranging from grade school clients to graduate students and beyond. I have comprehensive knowledge of MLA, APA, and Chicago/Turabian formatting. In addition to citation and reference editing, I also help my clients with syntactical errors, diction variance, and cohesive thesis formation. My integrative tutoring approach includes outline preparation, draft analyses, and strategies to shape how each student approaches writing. For clients working to enhance their reading comprehension, I focus on phoneme repetition and successive approximations to word recognition based on preexisting skills. I believe that the comprehension and production of language is a great gift and I strive to provide each of my clients with the ability to learn and thrive.

Knowledgeable and Very Patient!

I sought tutoring for research assistance and formulating my thesis statement of my Capstone for grad school. Based on our conversation prior to meeting, Claire had done her own research and offered suggestions to my project. She listened while I rambled on about my project and was very patient! She helped funnel my ideas into a cohesive thought and we built an outline for research and the paper itself. I already have my next appointment scheduled with her!
