Having worked with children from 5-15 years old on a variety of activities from exploring nature to teaching science to helping with math homework, I discovered my enjoyment of assisting people at any age to learn and overcome challenges.
I received my bachelor's degree in science as well as master's in education at the University of Maryland.
I have worked in Montgomery County and PG County Schools as well as am currently teaching in PG couny. I have created and taught lesson plans, worked with students one-on-one on their homework, and collaborated with other educators on more effective ways of teaching. I enjoy the classroom setting, but I particularly enjoying working with individual students, comprehending their point of view, and helping them reach understanding in the areas they face difficulty.
I have studied at a variety of education levels and with a diverse age group. I have taught children about nature, environmental science, the ocean, life sciences and a variety of other topics, and I have done this on occasion with having to find my own resources. The results have shown that the students have learned and gained a more in depth understanding of the topic at hand.
I have the fundamental background of math through taking math classes up until college-level calculus. I work with middle school students on their homework at school and help them achieve more understanding and higher scores, and I tutor in elementary and middle school math. I usually try to come up with a variety of examples to explain certain concepts to the students if they are struggling, and then I supply them with practice problems to confirm understanding.
I have a strong grammar background, and I have not only peer edited basic assignments of grade level students to researcher's publications, but have also explained the reasoning behind the edits and seen improvement on work that was shown afterwards.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken honor biology, AP biology, and numerous biology classes during my college education. I am currently teaching 8th grade middle school science (talented and gifted) in which I have to understand the basics of biology and teach it. I like to review or create diagrams and pictures for students to better understand concepts, as well as go through definitions and connect main ideas.
I received my bachelor's degree in Environmental Science and had to take ecology courses as well as apply my understanding to other classes. In addition, I studied the marine ecology on the East coast, created and introduced tool kits for teachers to use with students in their classroom, and taught students from 5th-8th grade about this system.
I have taken many math courses ranging from algebra to geometry to calculus. In addition, I have experience tutoring both elementary and middle school students. My method of teaching includes patiently reviewing over concepts, creating a variety of practice problems to test the student's knowledge and understanding, and challenging them.
I took grammar in middle school and have consistently reviewed it since. I have reviewed over professor's work, done peer editing, and have had to write a variety of scientific and literary essays with high proficiency. Concerning grammar, it is important to go over grammar rules and patiently practice them with the one needing assistance. I create different activities to work on the concepts and consistently encourage them in the process.
