Bio

I am a retired teacher who is available this summer and next fall. I would enjoy tutoring the child who is getting behind in school, wants to get ahead, or would enjoy enrichment in art, creative writing, or specific academic subjects. I have taught in Maryland, Ohio and Florida. My philosophy is to keep tutoring enjoyable and positive, with minimal negative criticism. It is the long range goal to develop a general love of learning and increased self confidence. It will transfer to many life skills in the years ahead.

I have enjoyed a dual career in art. As a very creative person I bring this gift to tutoring and use creative and fun ways to teach math and reading. Over the long summer children tend to regress in reading, language arts, and math skills. Strengthening and progressing ahead will make the next grade more enjoyable.

I have a masters degree from Case Western Reserve University. Using such visual tools as an abacus, flash cards,
Dominos, clock faces, measuring devices, fun word problems, to name a few, help make early math easier for younger children to grasp. Often I draw cartoon pictures to explain concepts.
Certification from Towson State University was most helpful to develop reading/language arts ideas I have developed on my own.

Lastly, I studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art, with particular focus on drawing, oil painting and sculpture. Figurative subjects and portraits are a particular area of expertise.
