I have been working with students for over 12 years. I have taught and tutored students from a wide range of backgrounds. I have experience with middle school all the way through adult learning. I am currently a teacher in MCPS teaching Algebra I and Algebra II, but have also taught Geometry and Foundations of Technology. I have a degree in Electrical Engineering which comes in handy helping students work through Common Core math and being able to apply and explain their thinking.
I am currently finishing a Master at Johns Hopkins University as part of an accelerated professional immersion program and plan to earn my teacher certification in May 2016. I have always enjoyed teaching and learning how students learn and plan to pursue a PhD and then open a school in the area.
I have many years of experience working one-on-one. I am very flexible and patient, and will always focus on helping the student reach their goal. As an active teacher, I am very familiar with the content, curriculum, assessments, and standards as well as the latest research in pedagogy and learning. What truly sets me apart is my ability to adapt to the needs of the student. I am very big on moving the student into an active role as a learner by filling gaps and supporting their own aspirations by helping them see how what they are learning can be used to achieve their goals.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
