About Leslie

I am a certified teacher. I have taught for 11 years and have taught first through eighth grades. I enjoy teaching reading and writing to everyone. I have had some training in specialized reading training from the Wilson Academy for teaching students with reading difficulties. I have certifications in Elementary Education, ESOL, ESE, Reading K-12 and English 6-12. I am also a Certified Gifted Teacher. I have also been a Career Counselor and have worked with adults and college aged students. I try to make learning fun and I am flexible with working with struggling students. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I used to work as a teacher for the Berlitz School of Languages and I have worked with many ESOL students in my over 11 years as a classroom teacher. I enjoy making learning fun.

I have been an English Teacher for more than 11 years. In addition, I am certified to teach English for 6 to 12 grades. I love teaching grammar and making it fun.

Handwriting

I have worked with elementary school students in the classroom and as a tutor with students who have handwriting issues.

Literature

I have been an English teacher for more than 11 years. In addition I am certified as a reading teacher for Kindergarten through 12th grades. I love to inspire students to fall in love with reading and literature. There is a book out there for everyone! It's just a matter of finding the right book and I believe that it is my calling to help people find the joy of reading.

I am certified as a Reading Teacher and I am currently getting my Level 1 Certification in the Wilson Language Program which is a program specifically designed to help students who are dyslexic. This program is rich in teaching phonemic awareness and phonics.

Public Speaking

At Florida International University I received a grant from Motorola for women in engineering and I worked with the students to improve their public speaking. As an English teacher I have also worked with my students for 11 years to improve their ability to speak in public.

Reading

I have worked as an Intensive Reading teacher in Middle School and I love to teach reading. I have also attended Wilson Training for students who struggle with phonics and decoding.

SAT Reading

I am a certified teacher in English and Reading and I have worked with many students to achieve test taking success.

SAT Writing

I have worked as a certified teacher in English and Reading for over 11 years. I have also worked with many students to improve their test taking skills.

Spelling

I have been an English Teacher for more than 11 years. Spelling has been a part of that curriculum and I have tutored students who have difficulty spelling. In addition I am currently completing my Level 1 Certification in the Wilson Language Program and this program is specifically designed for students with dyslexia. This program has a component designed to help students with spelling issues.

Writing

I have worked with many students in my 11 years of teaching. My specialty is writing. I love to help students express themselves and gain confidence in this area.
