Susan has helped by older son who was struggling to stay at grade level in reading to being well above grade level. She helped my little one learn how to read and write. She's great!
Susan tutored our son for the first time yesterday. As a first step she spent time figuring out what he knew and didn't know. Then she designed a program around his needs. She did an excellent job and we are thrilled that she is working with our son.
Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure to work with your son.
We have only had one session, but I am pleased that we did. Susan was organized and helpful, and had a good rapport with my grandson.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I teach kindergarten in MCPS and am confident in my ability to teach K-1 subjects in reading , math, writing, science and social studies. I am familiar with curriculum 2.0 which is used in MCPS. I could remediate reading and writing in 2nd grade because the skills would be at the level of a kindergartner or first grader.
I teach kindergarten so I teach handwriting/letter formation on a regular basis. I have lined whiteboards that I use for instruction. I also have a number of activities that I use to develop fine motor skills which are pre-handwriting skills.
I have a Master's degree in Elem. Education and hold an Advanced Professional Certificate for the state of Maryland. I have taught hundreds of students to read over the past 30 years.
I have followed the Jan Richardson skills progression, done daily guided reading groups with levels from Pre A through Level L and worked on comprehension orally and in reading journals. I plan for 5 reading groups each day.
