Muhlenberg College (Theatre)
(In Progress) The University of Maryland at College Park (Master's)
My name is Renee and I am new to Seattle. I just moved here from Vermont after graduating with honor from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. I have a natural ability with teaching and a passion for it. I started teaching my younger brother to read when I was in fourth grade and he was in second. Over time,I also tutored him in study skills, vocabulary, and writing. I have also tutored in reading, writing, history, and basic math. I particularly specialize in helping write essays and research papers. In high school I tutored in English and history as part of National Honors Society. In college I served as an academic mentor for one of my sorority sisters and I was responsible for keeping her motivated and providing study support as well as advice on course selections. While at college I took a well rounded selection of liberal arts courses. I majored in theater and minored in philosophy and comparative religions. I graduated magna cum laude and was a member of two honor societies. Last summer I worked as a general camp counselor responsible for a cabin of girls age 13-16 and was the head drama instructor as well as an arts and crafts instructor. Upon arrival in Seattle, I spent the summer working as a teaching intern for Taproot Theater. I taught acting, movement, musical theater, film, improv, and theory. I was an AVID academic coach at Highland Middle School and Interlake High School in Bellevue. I started tutoring through Wyzant in 2010. I have worked with students of all ages in a variety of academic disciplines including: English, biology, human geography, history, government, anthropology, and general study skills/organization. My specialty is teaching writing. I am available to come to your house, or meet you at a location of your choice. Additionally I offer consultation sessions over email. My schedule is flexible and I take on both long term and short term students. As a tutor I am patient and encouraging and am able to help others focus on and even enjoy their studies. I am fun and laid back but work hard and help others do the same.

She helped me write my college application essay and was very caring. It's as if she was writing it for herself.
Renee was very knowledgeable in helping me with my personal statement for the University of Washington and patient with my schedule changes. As a result of having her help, I was accepted to UW Bothell and the personal statement was a major part of my application.
My ninth-grade daughter is getting help with honors Biology, honors English and math. Renee consistently helps bring her understanding to a higher level and keeps her engaged.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
