Please allow me to introduce myself by first providing you some general information about me. I am a single mother of three children, one of whom is still in elementary school. My two smallest children and I just returned from living in Costa Rica. We had an amazing experience, and at the right time, I would love to share some of the highlights of our year abroad with you. Briefly I think it would help you to see the value I attach to education by telling you the reason I went to Costa Rica. I simply wanted to provide an experience for my children to be totally immersed in to a language and culture other than their own. Costa Rica made sense to me by virtue of its language, culture and safety. I taught the Spanish inmates, and Costa Rica was the only country that was not represented by gangs in my classroom. In addition to attending the Spanish elementary school everyday with my children, I also home-schooled them while we lived there and started a small private language school. I taught German and English to the local Ticos and Spanish and Latin dance to the Tourists. I am sure that you too have interesting aspects to your life and would like to hear about your experiences as well. I believe that a critical part of teaching is building a relationship with your student, so I look forward to not only sharing my expertise with you, but also learning about you.
My resume looks like I should be 100 years old, but I am not. My philosophy is that God has a big blue sky, and I don't want to miss any opportunities for me or my children. By virtue of this reasoning, I have held many positions in many places.
I have been a public school teacher and a college professor. I have taught all subjects from GED English and Math to German and Spanish. I have also been a behavioral specialist for juvenile delinquents and troubled youth and their families. I have two Masters degrees, one in C&I, the other in Special Education with a concentration in Learning Disabilities, Emotional Disturbances and Behavioral Disorders. I
